Phase 2: Path from yesterday to tomorrow: a trail and digital platform
Share this project
“Pathways from Past to Future” is the second phase of a participatory process that began with Taking Care of Our Destination Together, an initiative that aimed to co-create a trail that celebrates active transportation, culture, local landscapes, and heritage in Sutton.
Led by the Corporation de développement économique de Sutton (CDES), in collaboration with the Town of Sutton, this second phase of the initiative focuses on creating immersive, educational experiences—both through a physical walking trail and an interactive digital platform—to support sustainable tourism in the region. This chapter of the project builds on the strong momentum of Phase 1, which engaged over 400 community members.

This initiative is made possible thanks to financial support from the Government of Québec through the “Destination durable et action concertée” program, coordinated by the Fonds d’action québécois pour le développement durable (FAQDD). The project contributes to the goals of the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy and Québec’s 2020–2025 Action Plan for Responsible and Sustainable Tourism.

The project is guided by three key goals:
- Showcasing Sutton’s Heritage and Landscape
Highlight Sutton’s natural and cultural heritage within a slow tourism experience. - Sustainable Mobility and Trail Networks
Develop local trails with a low carbon footprint. - Local Economy and Community
Connect the local businesses to a centralized, user-friendly platform.
A number of important steps have been taken since the beginning of 2025 to achieve these goals:
- Close collaboration with the Town’s Planning Department and Sustainable Mobility Advisory Committee
- Consultations with 25 landowners
- Identification of three potential trail corridors
- Expert engagement and creation of practical planning tools
